In 1994 the Independent Development Trust (IDT) was engaged with a National Clinic Building Programme. The building site is located close to the local community houses and is thus easily accessible to all.

Through workshops held at the Masizame Centre, the residents of Lingelihle identified the need for a health centre. Accordingly a health committee was established who approached the IDT for funding. A large planning workshop identified the final brief and scope of the project. What makes this project unique is that it is a building which combines primary health care and preventative care with medical care by the health authorities in one facility. The design consists of two separate buildings joined by a central communal waiting area. This allows the one side to be run by the community. The opposite side deals with primary health care and also focuses on physically and mentally challenged health care issues.
