The foundation stone of the main building was laid by MC Botha, secretary of Education, on the 22 August 1940. The complex was used as a training college for teachers. It was later closed and handed over to the SA Defence Force as a training facility for women. In December 2002 the SA Police moved into the complex after it had been standing empty for 3 years. The complex is currently fully utilised as a cluster of offices for the George SAPS. There are units here on local, provincial, and national levels.
