In 1990 the University of the Western Cape contacted CS Studio Architects to relocate their Dental Faculty from Tygerberg to Mitchell’s Plain. CS Studio worked with Prof J. du Randt the vice rector at the time to secure about two and half floors of the Mitchell’s Plain Medi Clinic.

The project’s brief was to create a ground floor entrance while the first floor accomodates lecture rooms and the library. The 5th and 6th floor accommodates offices, laboratories and a 52 chair dental clinic. The project was fast tracked and completed by Murray and Roberts within 12 months and under budget. In 2002 CS Studio was again approached by the Dental Faculty who now merged with the University of Stellenbosch Dentistry Faculty to do alterations to accommodate laboratories and lecture rooms.
