The studio looked at redefining Urban Dysfunctions. Recovering, connecting and implementing neglected buildings through innovative hybrid and experimental environments.South Africa's history of a dysfunctional society forced architects who wanted to understand the complex society to find creative ways of working. This workshop had aimed to share some experiences learnt from processes in finding solutions.
The talk given to students had presented different examples of interactive processes and addressed urban challenges, learning lessons from participants. Students were tasked to in groups of 3 or 4 to identify an urban dysfunction. They then had to write a short explanation of the place, use maps, images, stories, etc., to explain their choice. They had to further define the condition and elaborate on their problem. They had to use multi-media in their presentations and use references to support their research in supporting the final proposal.
