The Department of Architecture at NMMU offered four workshops in architecture and urban design for the first, second, third and fourth year students of architecture and technology, as part of their academic programme. Erst Struwig under the leadership of Bobin Vergezi innitiated and facilitated the workshop. Workshops were run by Prof. Armando Dal Fabbro, Prof. Matias Irnbern, Prof. Stephen Read and Carin Smuts. CS Studio Architects ran the third workshop “WHY LISTEN”. The public lecture addressed process, African Space, re-use and decoration and identity as themes which recur in the work of CS Studio Architects. The theme of the workshop was to develop tools which would enable students to consider a more holistic design process where environmental, economic and social aspects all continuously impact on the design process.
